December Daily 4 | Snowflake Parade

Our friends the Appah's invited us over for dinner tonight and to join them at the Snowflake Parade. How fun is that? Believe it or not, this was my kids' first parade! Chad never wants to fight the crowds first thing in the morning-so this worked out nice. It was night and we live in Klamath Falls-even though there were hundreds of people, it still only took us minutes to get home. The kids loved it-there were lots of friends to sit with... ...and lots of fun things to see-this was Bekah's favorite float-The snow Angels. Her favorite part was the dogs that were walking in the parade, when they would come and say hi to the kids. That girl can't get enough dogs!Topher's favorite part was the marching bands and the fire trucks-basically all the loud stuff, (interestingly enough that was Porter's least favorite part-in fact he didn't care for the whole parade thing one bit!).Then of course all the kids loved seeing this jolly old guy-Luckily for them, he was spotted several times on several floats, and a guy standing next to us looked strangely familiar as well.

December Daily 3 | Wrapping and Cards

Wednesday:
I got MOST of my cards mailed off today(I am waiting on a couple people to get me their addresses).
I also wrapped all of Chad's family's gifts today-I spent SO much time making each individual family a gift, I hope they like them!We did the last bit of Christmas shopping and got the presents for the gift exchange the kids in Chad's family are doing-we are shipping them all off tomorrow.

I also finished up the kids' present for their Grandma Mona-if you are looking for a cheap, easy, kid friendly gift check out my crafty blog here. (Seriously cost me like 2 dollars for everything-and some of you may already have the stuff I had to spend the most money on!)

Lots more things planned for the rest of the week! Loving this month so far!

Topher-isms

My friend had some of her little girl sayings on her blog that she is going to miss when she actually starts to say them right-and it got me thinking about Topher's own little Topher-isms. Can you guess what the first one means? "Bongang" (It took us a VERY long time to figure out this one ourselves!) "I yuv you too mommy" "HO HO HO" (Santa) "I hold you mom?" (When he wants to get picked up.) "Woovie" (movie) "I don't want it to" (When he doesn't want to do something) "Pannycake a pedero" (for pancakes-Chad has a little rhyme he says for pancakes that I don't feel comfortable writing here-but now this is what Topher thinks pancakes are called). He is such a cute little kid and getting to be such a good talker-I need to video him singing some of his songs-they are TOO cute, and it makes me sad that he won't say these things like this for much longer! This photo was taken by my mom. She is available in Portland to take family photo's, she's TERRIFIC and she was mentored by the fabulous Heather Ward who is moving to Canada. SO if any of you are looking for a replacement photographer-or need a great family pic-you can contact her from her website. Portraits by Jules. She is in the process of building her website right now-she has a lot of photo's to go through-but she does family sessions, pregnancy photo's, newborn sessions, senior portraits, business card photo's, kids, engagements, weddings-you name it-she can do it! Check out what she does have on there-the cutest family is being featured right now!

Coasters

The kids and I, (okay mostly me) made these for thier Grandma for Christmas. She is always in need of some coasters.
They are super cheap and easy for those of you who need a quick gift that costs less than a buck!
The 4x4 tiles I got at Home Depot for 14 cents each!
I printed out a picture of each of the kids in a 3 inch square on regular paper-I don't think that photo paper would work as well. I modge podged till the cows came home, actually just until they had a thick enough coat that I felt comfortable with. I am not comfotable with cows at my home.
For the handprints and footprint-duh acrylic paint and a sharpie to write the names and dates-sprayed with a clear glossy spray paint (99 cents at Wal-mart).
I cut up some felt squares and hot glued them to the bottom to protect her furniture-but you could also use the 3m felt dots in the corners.
Voila! Cheap and cute and the kids could totally do this themselves if their mom wasn't an impatient perfectionist!

December Daily 2 | Cutting down the tree and decorating the tree

Today we went to the National Forest and cut us down a little Charlie Brown tree. Bekah REALLY wanted this one. It's a cute little tree and for $5 you can't beat that! The kids loved hiking up and checking out the selection.
Topher was so funny-he would stand next to a big tree and say;
"Look mom! The biggest tree in the whole wide world!"
Word for word.
Where do kids get this stuff?

We got home and got right to work getting it in the house and starting the decorating process.
When Chad and I were both kids-both of our dads would leave our tree outside at least a whole day to let it 'fall' and put off for a bit cutting it to just the right height before bringing it in the house. The anticipation as a kid to get that tree in your house was more than we could bear!
We won't put our kids through that kind of torture-we get home, from cutting it down-it's in the house within the hour!First the lighting of the tree-and taking the baby's picture playing in the strands of electric lights waiting to give the kid a little shock at the first drop of slobber. He loved it-I couldn't get him to look at me for anything-he could have played there all night but Chad was getting impatient to finish the lights so we could get on to the ornaments.I took pictures and handed out the ornaments to the all so willing tree decoraters.

I threw out all the ornaments that annoyed me last year-so we don't have all that many-mainly just the ones that mean something to us-and a couple cute ones. Each year Chad and I get each other an ornament that represents something that happened in that year.
The kids each get an ornament according to theme-Bekah, snowmen-Topher, Santa Claus-Porter, reindeer and even though Zach and Ryeleigh aren't here we get them ornaments too-Zachary, nutcrackers and Ryeleigh, snow stuff.
We open them on Christmas Eve, along with our new jammies and hang them on the tree before going to bed, (the ornaments not the jammies).
It's a fun tradition and it's where most of our ornaments have come from. Someday I would like to have a family tree and a pretty tree to decorate with matching ornaments and the whole bit-but for now this will do nicely.Porter tried to help with the tree too, but once he grabbed on he wouldn't let go. He was too funny-getting so excited and squealing at it.
Christmas Cluttered Entertainment Center The stockings all hung by the mantle with care... A few of my favorite things:

I LOVE this Nativity music box my sister in law brought me home from Switzerland.

Every year it is the thing I look forward to most of all in our Christmas decorations.
My new favorite ornament: Some of you Portland girls will remember this from last year and our ornament exchange-I brought it and I wanted it so bad, I cheated a bit at the game to keep it. It just makes me smile every time I look at it.
This star. I looked for a long time to find the perfect tree topper. I love it.
It was a fun day, full of Christmas spirit.

The kids have been happy all night, although....

There was one fit about this cheesy wooden santa box that I put in the Goodwill box along with some other decorations that were not my taste, but still around. Bekah cried and sobbed and threw out a lot of "mom is mean"'statements when I told her it was going, and to leave it alone. This didn't stop for at least 45 minutes.

Sometimes having a dramatic little 4 year old is SO much fun!

December Daily 1

The countdown to Christmas begins! Today we made Christmas chains, with the numbers 1-25 on them. I helped Topher with his, having him tell me which number comes next and had him slide the strips through the hole while I did the stapling. Bekah did hers completely on her own, cutting the strips, writing the numbers and putting the chain together. She was so proud of it! I did notice she may be a little dislexic with her numbers though-the twenties and the teens seemed to be mixed up a lot and the numbers were backwards. I guess we need to work on her numbers a little more!Every night before bed they get to take a link off till Christmas. I also taught them how to make snowflakes today, Bekah did a pretty good job, but cutting that small of shapes was a bit challenging. The upstairs walls are getting covered in them! We are going to try and do something holiday oriented each day of December-now that I am all done with presents, I can focus on just enjoying the month with my kids. Ahhh what a great feeling!

Yeck! It tastes like not having a dog!

Did anyone besides me read or watch "Because of Winn-Dixie"? If not, it's a cute little book and movie that the whole family would like. Well, anyway, there is a little girl in there named Sweetie Pie and she wants a dog really bad, so she follows around the girl in the story who has a dog all the time. There is also a candy in the town and when you eat it, it tastes good, but also has some sadness mixed in, so everyone can taste something that makes them sad. Well when Sweetie Pie puts it in her mouth, she spits it out and says "Yeck, it tastes like not having a dog."
Well if anyone would taste that as the saddest thing in their life it would be Bekah. She wants so bad to have a dog, she wouldn't leave Charlie and Cody alone.
She always tells us how sad she is that Bauer had to go away, and how she misses him soo sooo much. She draws pictures of him and other dogs that she wants to keep 'forever'. She plans parties at our house with invitations and games and the whole bit, and asks me if we can invite all the dogs over for a dog party.
Every time she sees ANY dog, she says "THAT is the kind of dog I want!" She asks me on a daily basis, when we will be able to get one, and I always tell her either when she's old enough to clean up the poop (she says she will NEVER be that old!) or when Dad has more time to take care of a dog, because I already have a baby to take care of, and I don't need another one. Plus we aren't supposed to have pets at our rental.
So she knows that we will most likely move when Chad is done with school into our own house, and that she will be 8 at the time. She has been asking me more and more when she will turn 8. How many days mom!?!
This girl needs a dog so much, I am tempted to get her one-but all it takes is seeing Charlie pee all over the place when someone says "Hi puppy!" in a high pitched voice to remind me why we won't be getting one for a long time!
Then on the other hand-there is this kid-in a TV coma at Grandma's.
Completely oblivious to the dogs or anything else going on around him. This is why we don't have television at home, and why we won't get television any time soon.
This is how we all were whenever we were at the house.
The TV was on and we were all blanking out in front of it.
How anyone gets anything done with all those channels is a big mystery to us!

Duck, duck, squirrel

On Saturday we went to Rhododendron Park for some pictures and feeding the abundance of water fowl and squirrels they have there. These animals know that humans are there to feed them-those squirrels are HUGE! All the animals would take stuff right out of your hand and Topher was having a ball petting the geese and chasing the ducks. I got a couple fun pictures of the kids by the ducks and just playing around the pond. I wanted to get some cute shot's of the kids with my new camera, on some rocks in the stream and on the stairs but Bekah had to go to the bathroom. I went off in search of a bathroom, just to find that it was locked up for the season. Then after that excursion I came back to get my camera from my brother and Topher biffed it hard on the rocks and took a big chunk out of his lip-blood everywhere. So I had one bloody kid and another doing the pee pee dance, (Porter was in the snuggly, cuddling with daddy). So we called it a day and headed on home.
We'll have to try again in the Spring when the flowers are in bloom.

No Place Like Home for the Holidays

I know cheesy title-but it's true-I miss my family more than I thought I did! We were all so excited to go see everyone and have a yummy meal-and of course go shopping on black Friday at a real store! (We are not Wal-Mart lovers). We got to my mom's Wednesday evening and came home Sunday afternoon. A perfect weekend. The girls all went out and saw Twilight and the boys all went out to see Quantum of Solace on Wednesday night. I liked it-not as well as the book for sure, but it was an entertaining couple of hours. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with everything you could think of and we ate it for the rest of the weekend with no complaints from anyone. My sister and her husband (and their dogs) and my Aunt Kim all came too. It was just such a relaxed and happy holiday. We all had such a nice time.Jim had just put away all the turkey (in Tupperware-he didn't eat it all, it just looked that way, so I took a picture for a laugh). I made simple place cards this year-because I was so burned out from making my in-laws Christmas presents the week before! The cards worked fine, and I wonder why I always put so much time and effort into the more elaborate ones, simple looked kind of elegant.
This little twerp above-my kid brother, Tyler is taller than me! I was the tallest in the family forever, and even when I saw him last, I was still an inch taller, and that was in September! He is only 15-and is obviously still growing, I wonder how tall he will get. My dad was 6'6", let's hope Ty stops well before then!Chad and I got all of our Christmas shopping done on Friday at Target-so that feels good, the Target card feels a little weighed down though!
We were going through the line and I asked the girl checking us out what was the most money someone had spent that day in her lane and she said the most was in the 400's. As she said that our total was still rapidly climbing and was well over 600 at that point-she said 'I guess you guys are winning!'
Awesome.
I guess it will only get worse as the kids get older too huh?
Who's idea was it to have so many kids anyway? Just kidding.
Good thing it only comes once a year eh?

Floating like a Cadillac

Topher got a present from Grandma for getting potty trained too. This car right here was the motivating factor in getting him to finally say he was ready. He had to be out of diapers before Thanksgiving for him to get this. So for Thanksgiving, I want to thank Grandma, but most of all Disney/Pixar for making Lightening McQueen. This kid wants to watch the movie every day and now that he has his car, well as you can see, he even wants to sleep with it. I think it is so funny that boys just know that cars are boy toys. I tried really hard to have gender neutral toys for the kids to play with, so they could share and play together-but these are the things they tend to gravitate towards-trains, planes and automobiles. Then there is my girl who I tried so hard to keep from being a girly girl-her room looks like a bottle of pepto. I guess I just have to accept that my girl will always love pink and my boy will probably want to own a gun someday. Yeck!
